a closer look...
14" diameter, 2" deep
waxed poly cording (knotting), carved, painted plywood, clear glass beads, metal hoop
I worked on this piece for months. My thoughts on the universe, the stars, black holes, how somehow Im a part of all of this but I just didn't know how to complete it or how I could express all this in one small sculpture. I had to put it aside as I continued with other projects. Then I read that lovely story again, “The Little Prince” by Antoine de Saint-Exupéry, (most likely because I am a new grandma.) As the Little Prince said before he was to die. ‘You--only you--will have stars that can laugh!” Reading that again filled me with joy and I knew I could get back, complete and title the work.
"Listen to the Stars and Laugh"
Isn’t it amazing how the universe answers?
