Cotton and waxed cording, wire, glass beads.
My sketch books are filled with drawings; most are based on my intuition and many years of practice. I'll choose a drawing that resonates with a feeling or a time in my life that brings me extreme gratitude and take the sketch to my art table.
I never actually follow the sketch exactly, I just follow the rhythm. "Moment of Awakening" is an example of this process. I started in the center using cording and beads. As I moved along I added different types of cording. I try my best to be in a meditative mind space while I work in a quiet studio.
This piece had me thinking of my recovery from a seemingly hopeless state of mind and body. Many years ago, in a moment of desperation; awareness, an awakening overtook me and I was totally immersed in hope and kind direction. I am still in awe of that moment. It's always been hard to explain this incident; however my artwork can express what I cannot put into words.
I assume we can all relate to a time when we were undecided and ended up amazed with the answer being something we did not expect, making a profound impact on our lives.
I used micro-knotting, crocheting, sewing, wire wrapping and many hours to complete this piece.
It's a privilege for me to be able to use the language of art.
