a closer look...
My admiration for fiber artists Fern Jacobs, Sheila Hicks, Judith Scott, Lenore Tawney, Joan Babcock and others who were influential figures in the development of fiber arts have helped me to expand my love of craft.
I took a workshop in basket weaving and was delighted with the examples of basket weaving as sculpture. Incorporating cording and different fibers into my art practice since 2017 has given me much joy and frustration! The art of using something so soft to add to or hold together wood brings up many situations I need to solve. Much must be redone, sometimes a few times until I feel it works!
$625
"Landscape Basket"
8" diameter, plus 4" tassel
painted and carved pine plywood, knotted poly cording, glass and stone beads.
I also included wire in the structure so I could bend and shape. Made to hang on the wall from a hook, nail or screw, it can also be used as a non-food item basket.
